Probable Cause

THE DTSB

The DTSB determines the Probable Cause of this accident is the pilots attempt to hand fly a missed approach, possibly trying to keep the field in sight during an unplanned circle attempt, therefore becoming disoriented trying to fly visually in IMC conditions, eventually entering turning flight below DMMS, and stalling the aircraft.

NTSB

None yet (final report not yet published).

Recommendation

THE DTSB

The DTSB Recommends all pilots of all aircraft to become extremely proficient with both autopilot and hand flying skills in IMC conditions, and that no attempt should be made to salvage a bad IMC approach by using outside references during any attempted circle to land.
