THE DTSB
The DTSB determines the probable Cause of this accident to be probable Cause of this accident to be Pilot Incapacitation after takeoff. Due to the witness remarks, the unusual flight path of the glider, and the age of the glider pilot (84), a medical incapacitation during takeoff is most probable. An examination of the aircraft and equipment showed no abnormal or failure. From the NTSB final report: “The witnesses also stated that the pilot acted and sounded normal before the accident;
however, once airborne, his actions were not consistent with his normal flying habits.”
