Probable Cause

THE DTSB

The DTSB determines the Probable Cause of this accident to be Pilot Error, in that the pilot continued to fly the aircraft after an engine abnormal was clearly obvious, passing up several opportunities to land safely. The engine eventually shook loose to the extent where an in flight engine fire erupted, and the pilot stalled the aircraft in his aggressive left hand turn to land north at the aerodrome.

The pilot in this accident had sufficient opportunity to become aware of the problem, and land immediately, but elected not to for unknown reasons.
