Probable Cause

THE DTSB

The DTSB determines the Probable Cause of this accident to be pilot error, even though the engine failed and regained power after the sixth touch and go. The aircraft was observed to make an aggressive left turn back towards the departure airport upon suffering the second observed loss of thrust, and enter an accelerated stall and left descending spin.

NTSB

Recommendation

THE DTSB

The DTSB recommends that all pilots of all aircraft become familiar with the AQP scenario 21 concerning the Impossible Turn, and condition themselves in the time of crisis, lower the nose, and land straight ahead. The Impossible Turn is usually impossible. The DTSB recommends Straight Ahead.
